People type “Intercom alternative” when they want a complete support platform that is different and better. Cove is a full competitor: live chat, email, help, CRM, workflows, a portal, SLA clocks, and phone callbacks in the same desk, priced per workspace.
What Cove is today
Cove is a Crisp-shaped support workspace with an Intercom-style messenger loop. A visitor opens the widget on your site. They can search help articles inside that messenger. If they write, the thread lands in a shared inbox. Someone on your team replies. When you resolve the conversation, the widget closes and can ask for a CSAT rating. Accounts, a 14-day trial, and billing run through Cove pricing. Chat, help, and team workflows sit on one desk.
That loop is the product. Campaigns live at Broadcasts. Highlight on page is a short banner from the inbox. The visitor map uses recent country. Phone callbacks and Twilio voice inbound are a channel. Conversation translation sits under the original. This article is the shipping list.
What Intercom is, on their own pricing page
Checked 29 Aug 2026 on Intercom’s pricing page. Seats: Essential $29/mo, Advanced $85/mo, Expert $132/mo per full seat. Fin is $0.99 per outcome. Copilot is $29/agent/mo billed annually, or $35 billed monthly. Proactive Support Plus (Series, tours, posts) is $99/mo for 500 messages. WhatsApp, SMS, email campaigns, and phone are pay-as-you-go. All plans include Fin.
Their help article on Fin outcomes (same date) is the part most “cheaper alternative” posts skip. An outcome can be a confirmed resolution, an assumed one (the customer does not ask for more help after Fin’s last answer), a procedure handoff, or a disqualification. Qualification is listed at $9.99. You are charged at most once per conversation. A minimum monthly commitment applies; Intercom’s own FAQ example is 50 outcomes.
The usage line is the one that surprises people who thought they bought chat. Intercom still has a calculator for mixes of Lite seats and add-ons; the seat amounts above are the ones printed next to Essential / Advanced / Expert on that page.
Why teams switch the messenger to Cove
- No per-resolution charge. Plus drafts from published help pages by keyword. A person still sends. Live workflows greet on new chats, replies, hours, channel, keyword, resolve, or unassigned.
- Campaigns at Broadcasts — email a segment or tag, up to 200 contacts. Widget studio fires URL-contains + delay teasers. Public replies can email via Resend when the contact has a real address.
- WhatsApp, SMS, email, Slack, Telegram, Messenger, Instagram, and phone callbacks land in the same inbox when connected. Twilio voice inbound can request a callback.
- Help in the messenger and on {slug}.coveinbox.co, plus a verified custom host.
- Tickets and a customer portal (magic link). SLA clocks on first reply and resolve.
- Inbox as a PWA. Widget in a WebView for mobile apps.
- HubSpot private app token, Shopify into the inbox, signed webhooks. A short catalog that works.
What you pay on Cove
Cove is billed per workspace, not per seat and not per resolution. From coveinbox.co pricing, which reads from the same figures we charge: Free at $0, Mini at $39 per month ($33 per month billed yearly, $396 once), Essentials at $89 ($74 yearly, $888 once), Plus at $219 ($183 yearly, $2196 once). Yearly is two months free. Conversations are unlimited. Paid plans start with a 14-day trial. Extra seats are listed at $6 per month on Mini and up.
The pricing page still prints “agent credits” on Mini, Essentials, and Plus ($5, $25, $75). There is no Fin-class agent behind those numbers today. You are not billed $0.99 when a visitor stops typing.
Who should switch
Switch if you want a widget on the site, a team inbox, articles next to the composer, a portal and SLA clocks, and a bill that does not move when a busy week hits. One desk for chat, help, and team workflows. A small SaaS team of two to ten people is the fit we built for.
If you were paying Intercom for Fin outcomes, outbound Series, or a plugin catalog, switch the messenger and the queue first. Cove drafts and workflows cover the first reply without a meter. WhatsApp and phone callbacks connect in Settings. See Cove vs Intercom.
